Family and professional ties are analyzed from the framework of Social History and the field of Afro-descendant Studies. It is concluded that the appropriation of Western European music by racialized individuals along with a series of social patterns, were contributing factors for the social mobility of a group of musicians of African origin in the first half of the 19th century in Chile. El artículo se propone examinar los músicos pardos y mulatos de finales del siglo XVIII y las primeras décadas del siglo XIX e indagar sobre el posicionamiento social logrado a partir de sus prácticas de larga data en el desarrollo de la música europea catedralicia. Se analizan las vinculaciones familiares y profesionales desde el marco de la Historia Social y el campo de los Estudios Afrodescendientes. Se concluye que la apropiación de música occidental europea por parte de individuos racializados, junto a una serie de patrones sociales fueron factores coadyuvantes para la movilidad social de un grupo de músicos de origen africano en la primera mitad del siglo XIX en Chile.
