The music-language comparison, music as an expression or communication of emotions and specific ideas, the ways in which it signifies, its capacity for intrinsic, extrinsic, autonomous, stable, contingent, social, historical, and/or political meaning are some of the theories that seek to unravel the ways in which music relates to its exterior. This dossier presents analysis and reflections on the tradition, circulation, and construction of a music scene to think about how music produces meaning, how a Latin American musical context is configured and how the Latin American musical archive participates in the global musical discourse. The dossier works on music as a cultural, historical and social production in relation with its context and with the cultural and affective associations that it produces. La cuestión de la naturaleza del significado de la música ha sido tema de debate desde que la música devino interés de investigación académica para la estética, la filosofía, la historia, la semiótica, y la sociología, entre otras disciplinas. La comparación música‒lenguaje, la música como expresión o comunicación de emociones e ideas específicas, los modos en que significa, su capacidad de significado intrínseco, extrínseco, autónomo, estable, contingente, social, histórico, y/o político son algunas de las teorías que buscan desentrañar los modos en que la música se relaciona con su exterior. Este dossier presenta análisis y reflexiones sobre la tradición, la circulación, y la construcción de una escena musical para pensar cómo la música significa, cómo se configura un contexto musical latinoamericano y cómo el archivo musical latinoamericano dialoga con el discurso musical global. El dossier trabaja sobre la música como producción cultural, histórica y social a partir de la relación con su contexto y con las asociaciones culturales y afectivas que produce así como con los factores que la condicionan.
