Asimismo, a lo largo del desarrollo de la LSF, Halliday y sus seguidores han rescatado la rica y necesaria ambigüedad del lenguaje, que le permite adaptarse a nuevas realidades. Por ello, nunca encubrieron las ambigüedades que existen en el metalenguaje que usa la lingüística para describir su objeto de estudio. Elsa Ghio, como gran traductora y promotora de la obra de Halliday al español, supo difundirla teniendo en cuenta este carácter reflexivo de la lingüística. Aquí nos detenemos en tres casos, uno de recodificación de términos del inglés al español, las nociones de Mode y Mood, otro de distintas representaciones para nociones gramaticales afines, las de metáfora gramatical experiencial y de nominalización, y un tercer caso de una misma representación para nociones gramaticales un tanto distintas, la de Tema. Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) considers language as a social semiotics and isthus based on a socio-semantic and discursive grammatics. Accordingly, throughout the development of SFL theory, Halliday and his followers have taken on board the richness of language ambiguity that enables the adaptation to new realities.  Linguistic metalanguage is no exception, and Elsa Ghio, as an exceptional translator and promoter of Halliday’s work into Spanish, took into consideration this reflexive character of linguistics. In this paper we examine three cases.
