The Novísimo diccionario lunfardo emerges as a dictionary published in installments in the Crítica newspaper between September 1913 and January 1915, gathering more than two thousand seven hundred entries identified by its author as lunfardo units. Although it does not adhere to the genre's conventions, being a piece of humorous and ironic material, its documentary value lies in portraying a moment in the historical development of the Rioplatense slang. Hence, in this article, we will analyze the general structure of the dictionary and the characteristics of its definitions. We will also survey the word formation processes evidenced therein. Beyond its playful resources and literary value, the Novísimo documents a series of units in the initial stage of lunfardo's development, so a formal review of its content will allow for the dating and deepening of numerous elements of the colloquial speech of Argentinians. Nos proponemos brindar aquí una descripción preliminar del Novísimo diccionario lunfardo, a partir de la edición crítica en progreso de este material (Conde & Bohrn, en preparación). El Novísimo diccionario lunfardo se presenta como un diccionario publicado por entregas en el diario Crítica entre septiembre de 1913 y enero de 1915, que reúne más de dos mil setecientos lemas identificados por su autor como unidades del lunfardo. Si bien no respeta las convenciones del género por tratarse de un material humorístico e irónico, su valor documental radica en que retrata un punto en el desarrollo histórico del argot rioplatense. Es por esto que, en este artículo, analizaremos la estructura general del diccionario y las características de sus definiciones. Relevaremos también los procesos de formación de palabras allí atestiguados. Más allá de los recursos lúdicos y de su valor literario, el Novísimo documenta una serie de unidades en la etapa inicial del desarrollo del lunfardo, por lo que una revisión formal de su contenido permitirá datar y profundizar numerosos elementos del habla coloquial de los argentinos.
