Sumario:In this work we aimed to investigate discourse interactions among tenth, and eleventh years old students from the Escola Fundamental do Centro Pedagógico at Universidade Federal de Minas Ge-rais – Brazil. We tried to focus the language as a resource for mediation of learning and production of historical concepts. The research was based in the social-cultural theoretical ideas of Vy-gotsky and the Philosophy of language of Bakhtin. We elect as focus of observation the concept of time, basic to the historical thinking, taking by reference studies from historiographers, psy-cho-pedagogues and academics of the historical thinking in children. To analyze the class episode, the analytic structure of Mortimer and Scott was used, collecting evidences of learning, by the investigation of the productive disciplinary engagement. Our case study brought evidences of construction of knowledge by the interchange of students’ words helped by the teacher’s mediation and the mediation instruments.
