During this period, Hesayne developed a pastoral project conceived from the construction of a “new Church” that was designed from the diocesan Synod convened at the dawn of democracy 1983-1984. In this article we propose to approach the beginnings of that post-synodal Church through the analysis of the campaign “a sheep for my brother” from the De Pie magazine and the Social Promoters project, initiatives that were deployed in the context of the 1984 snowfall and that make visible Hesayne's conception of the role that the new Rio Negro Church should assume in the face of social issues. For this investigation we have collected documents, letters and periodical publications from the archive of the Diocese of Viedma and from the personal archive of a priest close to Hesayne. We also carry out in-depth interviews with representatives of indigenous communities; priests who accompanied the project of the bishopric in its beginnings; and historical INTA officials.
