Reelección Indefinida Competencia Política Provincias argentinas Gobernadores. Argentine federalism is characterized by an institutional heterogeneity mainly of the subnational electoral systems. This leads to each province having its own constitutional frameworks that regulate the number of mandates that the provincial executive power can exercise. Within these constitutional powers, the authorization of indefinite reelection has been an electoral tool used by some Argentine provinces since the return of democracy. In some of the academic literature, it is argued that the indefinite reelection of the governors' mandates would have negative effects on political competition due to the implications it would have for political pluralism. So this paper tries to make a contribution to the discussion about the alleged distortion that would cause indefinite reelection in political competition. Here it is argued that indefinite reelection per se does not have to weaken political competition, but that the consequences differ in each province. To support this argument, indicators are constructed that measure the degree of political competition using electoral data.
