Through a study located in the Dirección Municipal de Defensa al Consumidor y Relaciones Vecinales de Canto Gris (Municipal Directorate for Consumer Protection and Neighborhood Relations of Canto Gris), it is proposed to trace an analytical relationship between proximity conflicts handled in this area -within the framework of the implementation of community mediation as a mechanism for conflict settlement- and neighborhood as a type of particular moral order that becomes visible in this type of situation. The presence of a series of elements that go beyond the original declared motive that leads to the processing of the conflict in the local office account for a set of values associated with a broader notion of neighbor expressed by the actors that highlight the moral dimension of the neighborhood relations. Through an ethnographic approach and supported by Gluckman’s central thesis of conflict, contributions centred on the symbolic dimension of social processes and more recent developments aimed at understanding conflicts in the context of state conflict settlement devices, it is proposed to know how plots of meanings about neighborhood operate in the local state processing of disputes in a medium-sized city. A través de un estudio que tomó como lugar de observación la Dirección Municipal de Defensa al Consumidor y Relaciones Vecinales de Canto Gris, se propone trazar una relación analítica entre conflictos de proximidad tramitados en dicho ámbito –en el marco de la implementación de la mediación comunitaria como dispositivo de administración de conflictos– y la vecindad como un tipo de orden moral particular que se torna visible en este tipo de situaciones. La presencia de una serie de elementos que desbordan el motivo original declarado que conduce a la tramitación del conflicto en la oficina local, da cuenta de un conjunto de valores asociados a una noción más amplia de vecino que son expresados por los actores y ponen de relieve la dimensión moral de la vecindad. A través de un enfoque etnográfico y apoyado en la tesis central del conflicto de Gluckman, aportes centrados en la dimensión simbólica de los procesos sociales y desarrollos más recientes dirigidos a la comprensión de los conflictos en el contexto de dispositivos estatales de administración de conflictos, se propone conocer cómo operan tramas de significados sobre la vecindad en la tramitación estatal local de disputas en una ciudad media.
