description We performed a review on what is already known about the afro-descendant woman from the city of Cordoba, until when records allowedidentifying them by that status. The upper time limit was 1840,corresponding to the last census where the "condition" status and in a fewcases the "class" were used. Mainly, we analysed bibliographic resources,including primary documents only when referring to the approaches andresults included in the bibliography. We mainly focused on quantitativepopulation-based studies, and contextually, on case or theoretical studies,which provided relevant information but do not allowed us to reach thegeneral behaviour of the population. We concentrated on issues related tonumerical representation, legal status (slaves or ‘libres’), sales andmanumissions, and finally, on studies dealing with couple establishmentand on population reproduction of these women. We finally revised pastand present contributions of their demographic behaviour.
