description This article addresses the issue of the Social and Solidarity Economy, retaking the theoretical and historical foundations, including the reference of some developed and developing associative socioeconomic ventures in urban and rural areas of Northern Patagonia, while organizing activities linked to identities and particular local or regional trajectories. They allow making remarks about the associated management, organizational challenges that it implies, the incidence of institutional and productive social environment, and the role of public policy and government management in different jurisdictions and areas of state intervention to over time. The analysis of heterogeneous rural and urban selected experiences, involving cases of associated producers, subsistence and capitalized emerged over time product of own initiatives by activity, and others promoted by policies public and from the actions of non-governmental organizations of various profile in later stages. Have been revised institutional background and records, it has been used on previous work developed and shared research, and several developed by other researches. As a primary source, it hasbeen realized interviews with various actors involved directly and envolved in self-managed experiences from the civil and social organizations. The extent of reference is brief, about the long march and the diversity of the social economy in the region, and the recent fertilization of experiences, limitation also moves to final analysis and reflections, stimulating the formulation and development of new research.
