description The article shows the study of Free Trade Area of the America's (FTAA) perspectives taking in consideration its background from 1990, when president George Bush addressed the America's Initiative which concluded with the first FTAA's negotiations, in 1994, during the Miami's Conference. He analyses FTAA's nature, its implications to the continental zone and the rejections that some countries have shown because of the effects that would have in the sub-continental free trade zone. The author points out that a good part of the United States's logical aspirations within FTAA are based on NAFTA, specially in three important aspects that are studied in this article: 1) as a succesful model according to liberal powers, mainly from the United States; 2)Canada and Mexico's institutions adapted to American schemes, and 3) NAFTA as a model in political and economical fields.
