description In this article, it is offered a theoretical reflection about the experience of being anxious, which is based on both the results of a qualitative research with a phenomenological orientation about the same theme, and the theoretical ideas of the existential phenomenological perspective in psychology. In this sense, this article gives a possibility of understanding that emphasizes and point out to the need of comprehending the experience of being anxious, before looking for a theoretical explanation about it. The main idea is that in order to understand the way people assume and confront the experience of being anxious, we have to be capable of grasping the meaning of this experience for the person who is experiencing it, from both her/his existential structure and her/his own experiential perspective. In this way, it is understood that if we are totally contextualized about one person’s experience, we could offer and develop theories, explanations, and techniques that attend and are specifically focused on that person and her/ his concrete needs, instead of attending to our own theoretical and technical needs.
