Sumario:The sanction of the law of rural leases and sharecropping, in September 1948, marks a point of particular importance in the struggles initiated, since the beginning of the 20th century, by small and medium rural producers. The new law, enacted as part of a government of popular basis that assumed the problems of that sector as State policy, outlined as a very significant step forward in relation to the demands linked to the land tenure, at the time which tended to generate suspicions among the landlords. Based on the analysis of the newspaper "La Tierra" of FAA and the Review "Anales" of SRA, we looked for the role that the diferent rural sectors took over in the enactment of this law, its reading as well as the type of pressure placed on the political power in order to encourage or discourage its promulgation.
