It briefly reviews the interrelationships between traditions, experiences and research to reflect on the complex link between urban territories and historical processes. It also explores the limits and potentialities of the assemblages between practices, institutions and policies in urban transformation processes and tries to gauge how history and the local impose their conditions on abstract and global models and ideas. It also reflects on the morphologies and transformation processes of urban territories and tries to propose the urban as a dynamic, mutant and multi-causal process. Finally, it describes an agenda of situated investigations that indicate the importance of the uses of water, suburban coasts, popular neighborhoods, scenographic spaces and gated communities.
