For this, we first analyze the legal normative set that served as the basis for the regulation of prostitution and its workers in the capital of San Juan. Then, the actions of social control agencies are investigated, not only to identify their discourses and practices, but also to highlight the multiple tensions generated by this activity, considered useful and necessary, as well as dangerous. Finally, we investigate the set of strategies deployed by these women to improve their living conditions in a context of growing urbanization and consolidation of the capitalist economy. Este trabajo constituye un primer acercamiento a la reconstrucción histórica del trabajo sexual femenino reglamentado en la ciudad de San Juan (1899-1937) a partir del análisis de las normativas y el accionar de las agencias municipales y policiales. Para esto, primero analizamos el conjunto normativo legal que sirvió de base para la regulación de la prostitución y sus trabajadoras en la capital sanjuanina. Luego, indagamos el accionar de las agencias de control social, no solo para identificar sus discursos y prácticas, sino para evidenciar las múltiples tensiones generadas sobre esta actividad, considerada útil y necesaria, al tiempo que peligrosa. Finalmente, examinamos el conjunto de estrategias desplegadas por las mujeres para mejorar sus condiciones de vida en un contexto de creciente urbanización y consolidación de la economía capitalista. Este artigo é uma primeira abordagem à reconstrução histórica do trabalho sexual feminino regulamentado na cidade de San Juan (1899-1937), com base na análise dos regulamentos e das ações dos órgãos municipais e policiais. Para isso, primeiro analisamos o conjunto de normas legais que serviram para o regulamento da prostituição e de seus trabalhadores na capital de San Juan. Em seguida, investigamos as ações dos órgãos de controle social, não apenas para identificar seus discursos e práticas, mas também para destacar as múltiplas tensões geradas por essa atividade, que é considerada ao mesmo tempo, útil e necessária, e perigosa.
