The conjuncture  of 1817-1818 is selected to examine the clash among two different groups, “the artiguistas” and “the directoriales” which allows us to understand the local leaders’ role. En el Río de la Plata, la Revolución de Mayo de 1810 habilitó la discusión acerca de la construcción de un nuevo orden, donde las distintas posiciones políticas se dirimieron en guerras. Uno de los escenarios claves de disputas fue el territorio entrerriano, siendo el propósito del presente artículo estudiar los factores que hacen del mismo un espacio estratégico en la región. El mirador seleccionado es la coyuntura de 1817-1818, momento en el cual el enfrentamiento entre artiguistas y directoriales se instala en el espacio en cuestión, y el escenario que nos permite analizar el accionar de los líderes locales.
