El presente texto se propone ofrecer algunas pistas para acercarse a las obras de Juan Carlos Garavaglia. Y lo hace en un doble sentido, por un lado, a través de un recorrido de los intereses que el historiador supo despertar e incentivar en quienes se formaron a su lado y, por otro, poniendo en primer plano una de sus preocupaciones fundamentales: rescatar la experiencia de la Confederación Argentina (1853-1862), como proyecto de “Nación”, frente al Estado de Buenos Aires.
