This proposal made him develop a multidisciplinary approach in all his researches, aware of the progresses of anthropology, sociology, and other social sciences. In these pages a thought will be offer, upon the way in which the historian understood his job, by a travel through his main works. Juan Carlos Garavaglia estaba convencido de que jamás debía hacerse una historia económica desvinculada de la historia social. Postulaba que aquella no debe circunscribirse a la mera enumeración de cifras abstractas, sino que es imprescindible que la disciplina preste especial atención a las personas de “carne y hueso”, a las dinámicas sociales que informan todo proceso histórico. Esta postura lo llevó a practicar a lo largo de sus investigaciones un enfoque multidisciplinario, atento a los avances de la antropología, la sociología y las demás ciencias sociales. En estas páginas se ofrece una reflexión sobre la manera en que este historiador entendía el oficio, a través de un recorrido por sus principales trabajos.
