One of the central purposes of the text is to compare this process with the one occurring in the space north of the mentioned river. For this, the organization of the justice of peace was considered from the initiative of Bernardino Rivadavia, the reorganization of the jurisdictions made by Rosas as a consequence of the insurgence of the Free of the South in 1839. Likewise, it was investigated in the profile of the personnel of the courts of peace to contrast them with the studies carried out by recognized historians as well as in the daily functioning of this institution from a varied set of documentation. El artículo describe y analiza la organización y el funcionamiento de la justicia de paz en el espacio al sur del río Salado de la provincia de Buenos Aires durante el gobierno de Juan Manuel de Rosas a partir de los aportes de Juan Carlos Garavaglia, entre otros especialistas. Uno de los propósitos centrales del texto consiste en comparar dicho proceso con el acontecido en el espacio al norte del mencionado río. Para ello, se consideró la organización de la justicia de paz a partir de la iniciativa de Bernardino Rivadavia, la reorganización de las jurisdicciones realizada por Rosas como consecuencia del levantamiento de los Libres del Sur en 1839.
