description From the analysis of work in the hotel industry in the city of Mar del Plata between 1950 and 1990, this article aims to approach, from a gender perspective, how the seasonal nature of the activity shaped the time dimension of work. We examined how the work carried out there challenged the androcentric idea that employment should be a stable and full-time activity. We argue that the heterogeneity that characterized the labor market can be addressed from the workers' uses of time. However, this analysis is not an end by itself but instead it allows us to reveal deeper aspects of work, daily life, family and gender relations at different historical moments. We observed how the seasonal work had a differential effect on the daily life of men and women, on their strategies to reconcile hotel work with other activities, whether remunerated or not and in the construction of identities.

A partir del análisis del trabajo en el sector hotelero en la ciudad de Mar del Plata entre 1950 y 1990, el artículo se propone abordar, desde una perspectiva de género, la dimensión temporal del trabajo haciendo hincapié en el carácter estacional que revestía la actividad. Examinamos cómo el trabajo allí realizado desafiaba la idea androcéntrica de que el empleo debía ser una actividad estable y realizada a tiempo completo. Sostenemos que la heterogeneidad que caracterizó al mercado de trabajo puede ser abordada desde los usos del tiempo de los trabajadores y trabajadoras. Sin embargo, su análisis no es un fin en sí mismo sino que permite develar aspectos más profundos del trabajo, la vida cotidiana, la familia y las relaciones de género en distintos momentos históricos. Observamos cómo la estacionalidad del trabajo influyó de forma diferencial en la vida cotidiana de los varones y las mujeres, en sus estrategias de conciliación del trabajo hotelero con otras actividades ya fueran remuneradas o no y en la construcción de identidades. Com base na análise do trabalho no setor hoteleiro na cidade de Mar del Plata entre 1950 e 1990, o artigo visa abordar, a partir de uma perspectiva de gênero, a dimensão temporal do trabalho, enfatizando o caráter sazonal da atividade. Examinamos como o trabalho realizado ali desafiava a ideia androcêntrica de que o emprego deveria ser uma atividade estável em tempo integral. Argumentamos que a heterogeneidade que caracteriza o mercado de trabalho pode ser abordada a partir do uso do tempo dos trabalhadores. Porém, sua análise não é um fim em si mesma, mas revela aspectos mais profundos do trabalho, do cotidiano, da família e das relações de gênero em diferentes momentos históricos. Observamos como a sazonalidade do trabalho influenciou diferentemente no cotidiano de homens e mulheres, em suas estratégias de conciliação do trabalho hoteleiro com outras atividades, remuneradas ou não, e na construção de identidades.
