description The social problem that stray dogs and cats generate concerns cities around the world. Limiting the reproduction of these species through surgical neutering is considered one of the most effective tools for an ethical and humanitarian population control .In this work a self-assessment of the professional performance of a surgical team of the School Hospital for Small and Large Animals of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences of the National University of Rosario is carried out. The team performed 1099 neuterings during 2014-2015 indifferent towns of the south ofSanta Feprovince using a Mobile Surgery Unit provided by the National Pro-ownership Program. As methodology of work, an evaluation based on the detection of immediate and mediate post-surgical complications was used through a follow-up of a sample population of the operated animals. The results were analysed and discussed and the conclusion drawn is that the key to reduce post-surgical complications is to use quick, minimally invasive techniques carried out by competent and experienced professionals who follow a rigorous working protocol.
