El artículo aborda la experiencia de la Comuna de París de 1871 desde el punto de vista de las concepciones de la democracia. Situa su novedad histórica a partir de las visiones contrapuestas de Friedrich Nietzsche y Karl Marx. Expone críticamente algunas de las interpretaciones posteriores sobre el contenido democrático de la Comuna en el marxismo para indagar sobre la especificidad del principio democrático de la Comuna, su novedad y sus diferencias con democracias representativas bajo el capitalismo.
