description   Droughts are climatic events that affect various areas worldwide, generating economic and social impacts. In the Pampas region these events are significant due to their effects on agriculture and livestock. The objective of this work was to identify the droughts in the Cura Malal Grande basin in the period 2001-20 and the behavior of the vegetation during the drought event of 2018. The Standardized Precipitation and Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) and the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) were used. High correlation was found between NDVI and SPEI at a 3-month scale, indicating that the temporal scale better represents variations in vegetation. For the analysis of NDVI data, five representative samples from three sectors of the basin (upper, middle and lower) were selected. It was found that the 2018 drought event showed significant impacts on the vegetation of the basin. Index anomalies are exclusively negative with varying degrees of negativity. A greatest presence of vegetation was observed in the CM and CB-1 sampling areas (middle and lower basin, respectively), mainly in sectors close to the main course of the stream and bodies of water.
