Our goal is to explore how a videogame developer, Bethesda Softworks, uses an ideological phenomenon such as nationalism to design part of the narrative of a mass-market multimedia cultural product. Videogames are currently one of the cultural industries with the greatest economic impact worldwide, surpassing the revenues of other traditional cultural industries such as film, literature, and music. Because of the global reach of this market, it is relevant to reflect on the interpretation that the developer gives to the player about various social issues, and whether this interpretation manifests an implicit or explicit position about our social reality.
