At the same time, the main Latin American oil exporters have gradually reduced their oil sales to the United States, diversifying to new destinations such as China and India.Faced with a context that combines, on the one hand, India as a country highly dependent on foreign oil to achieve its energy security, and on the other hand, the main oil producing countries in Latin America increasing their sales to Asian powers such as India, what are the domestic and systemic determining factors in energy matters that made Venezuela a key player for India in the new century? In turn, and as part of the previous question, how do United States’ actions determine India-Venezuela relations? Based on the questions above, the aim of this paper is to analyse the domestic and systemic determining factorsthat led Venezuela to become the third largest supplier of oil to India in the world in the second decade of the 21st century, only to quickly become marginal.  El siglo XXI plantea un escenario donde las cuestiones energéticas han comenzado a estar cada vez más vinculadas a grandes potencias asiáticas. Simultáneamente, los principales exportadores de petróleo latinoamericanos han disminuido de forma paulatina las ventas petroleras a Estados Unidos, diversificándolas hacia nuevos destinos tales como China e India.Frente a un contexto que conjuga, por un lado, a India como un país altamente dependiente del petróleo foráneo para alcanzar su seguridad energética, y por otro lado, a los principales países productores de este recurso de América Latina aumentando sus ventas a las potencias asiáticas como India, cabe preguntarnos ¿cuáles son los condicionantes domésticos y sistémicos en materia energética que convirtieron a Venezuela en un actor clave para India en el nuevo siglo? A su vez, y como parte de la pregunta anterior ¿de qué forma el accionar de Estados Unidos condiciona las relaciones India-Venezuela? Sobre dichosinterrogantes, el objetivo de este trabajo es analizar los condicionantes domésticos y sistémicos que condujeron a que Venezuela se convirtiera en el tercer mayor proveedor de petróleo de India del mundo en la segunda década del siglo XXI, para rápidamente pasar a una situación marginal.
