In the Birecik-Carchemish area, in eastern Turkey, on the edge of the Middle Euphrates (northern Mesopotamia), various archaeological sites have been investigated, which present the immediate phases at the end of the expansion of the Uruk culture, as well as its epilogue, the Early Bronze period. We focus this study on the Surtepe site, a settlement of 8 ha, where we have documented this phase, and initial of Early Bronze 1, as well as in Tilbes Höyük and in Meteler/Tilvez Höyük. El período de la Expansión Uruk a finales del IV milenio a.C., se conecta habitualmente con la aparición de las primeras sociedades estatales del sur de Mesopotamia. En la zona de Biredyik-Karkemish, en el este de Turquía, al borde del Éufrates Medio (norte de Mesopotamia), se han investigado diversos lugares arqueológicos, que presentan las fases inmediatas al final de la expansión de la cultura Uruk, así como su epílogo. Centramos este estudio en el yacimiento de Surtepe, un asentamiento de 8 ha, donde hemos documentado esa fase, y comienzos del Bronce Antiguo 1, al igual que en Tilbes Höyük y en Meteler/Tilvez Höyük.
