We propose a historical review, trying out some answers as to why we continue to talk about supervision in Social Work, a question that runs through the article, searching in the traces of the past for the validity of the term and finding in the re-conceptualisation movement the legacy that is sustained in contemporary proposals. En el presente artículo partimos de considerar que la supervisión estuvo presente desde los orígenes de nuestra profesión. Sin embargo, sus objetivos y sus componentes no son estáticos, sino que sientan las bases de un ejercicio que fue modificándose en sintonía con la formación profesional, la intervención y las transformaciones socio- históricas. Proponemos un recorrido histórico ensayando algunas respuestas a ¿por qué continuamos hablando de supervisión en Trabajo Social?, pregunta que recorre el artículo buscando en las huellas del pasado la vigencia del término y hallando en el movimiento de reconceptualización el legado que se sostiene en las propuestas contemporáneas.
