Sumario:Germany's foreign policy has been characterized since the founding of the Federal Republic in 1949 by its low profile, its intense multilateralism and the promotion and defense of European and liberal values. During the Cold War and the years after the Reunification, this country was an ‘economic giant, political dwarf’. Nevertheless, Angela Merkel arrival in office in 2005 represented an increase in the German incidence in the international scenario. In any case, the foreign policy of the Chancellor has not meant a break with her past, but its traditional guidelines have been preserved. According to this, the following article will seek to account for those changes in the continuity of Germany's foreign policy, as well as the main challenges that it has had to face from 2005 to date.
