In this paper this concept is questioned because it eliminates possibilities and excludes the ‘knowledges’ of social actors, turning it into a concept that is not only abstract but also an ideological one. El concepto determinantes sociales ha sido poco utilizado por la antropología social latinoamericana, salvo algunas tendencias marxistas; aun cuando la mayoría de los antropólogos entre 1940 y la actualidad han utilizado lo cultural como determinante, pero sin explicitarlo. En este texto se cuestiona este concepto, por eliminar las posibilidades y por excluir el saber de los actores sociales, convirtiéndolo en un concepto no solo abstracto sino ideológico. O conceito de determinantes sociais tem sido pouco utilizado pela antropologia social latino-americana, exceto por algumas tendências marxistas; mesmo quando a maioria dos antropólogos entre 1940 e o presente tem usado a cultura como determinante, mas sem explicitá-la. Neste texto, este conceito é questionado, por eliminar as possibilidades e por excluir o conhecimento dos atores sociais, tornando-o não apenas um conceito abstrato, mas também ideológico.
