Read unanimously as anexperimental-political novel, the obligatory question to the contemporary critique,unconnected with the reception horizon of its time, it’s if the allegorical sense and thefragmentary figuration of history such as it may be conceived in Respiración artificial aresufficient to transform the work in autonomous. Este trabajo intenta recuperar la tesis sobre la adscripción de la obra de Pigliaa las llamadas “estéticas negativas”, realizada por Sandra Contreras en Las vueltas de CésarAira (2002), a fin de darle una nueva problematización. El elemento dominante de laliteratura crítica acerca de Piglia que justificaría su aparente vinculación con las estéticasnegativas –aunque nunca se mencione en esos términos explícitos– sería el concernienteal valor otorgado al carácter reflexivo de su obra, que aplicado a las coordenadashistóricas nacionales del período de dictadura, explicaría el retroceso de las estéticasmiméticas de lo social por acción de una nueva clase de ficción política, en aparienciaantirrepresentativa. Leída de manera unánime como novela político-experimental, lapregunta obligada para la crítica actual, ajena al horizonte de recepción de la época, es siel sentido alegórico y la figuración fragmentaria de la historia tal como estarían dados enRespiración artificial son suficientes para transformar la obra en autónoma.
