Both of these narrations fall in the spectrum of «absent text mystery» or bibliomystery. Through the essay, several instances will be considered to analyze this specific act of reading, such as paratexts, crime fiction topics, narrative tension and the reader as a detective. A partir de la propuesta denominada lectura policial del teórico francés Richard Saint-Gelais, el presente artículo efectúa un recorrido minucioso sobre las posibilidades interpretativas de dos narraciones de escritores latinoamericanos: «Nombre falso», de Ricardo Piglia y Los detectives salvajes de Roberto Bolaño, ambas dentro del espectro de los «enigmas de textos ausentes». Para ello, se apela a los distintos dispositivos que suscitan una lectura específica, como los paratextos, los tópicos desarrollados por el género en cuestión, la tensión narrativa y el posicionamiento del lector como detective.
