Starting from the foundational link between Freud and the academic world, it traces how psychoanalysis was born within academic culture but later distanced itself in pursuit of autonomous training. Through the analysis of the concept of Bildung and the tensions between encyclopedic knowledge and the knowledge of the unconscious, it addresses the specificity of metapsychological knowledge. It also reviews Freud’s critical stance toward the university and the challenges of incorporating psychoanalysis into the modern academic structure. Lacan offers a key perspective by positioning the university as a discourse, distinct from the analytic discourse. The text concludes by emphasizing the value of a critical insertion of psychoanalysis into the university, as a necessary guest capable of renewing the culture of knowledge without abandoning its epistemic and clinical uniqueness. Este artículo examina la compleja relación entre el psicoanálisis y la universidad desde sus orígenes. Partiendo del vínculo fundacional entre Freud y el ámbito universitario, rastrea cómo el psicoanálisis se gestó dentro de la cultura académica, pero luego se apartó de ella en busca de una formación autónoma. A través del análisis del concepto de Bildung y de las tensiones entre el saber enciclopédico y el saber del inconsciente, se plantea la especificidad del saber metapsicológico. Se revisa también la posición crítica de Freud hacia la universidad y los desafíos de incluir al psicoanálisis en la estructura académica moderna. Lacan aporta una lectura clave al situar la universidad como discurso, diferenciándolo del discurso analítico. El texto concluye subrayando el valor de una inserción crítica del psicoanálisis en la universidad, como huésped necesario que puede renovar la cultura del saber sin renunciar a su singularidad epistémica y clínica.
