This article introduces us to the context of the history of its practice since pre-Columbian times and then focuses on the occult magical-religious activities and beliefs of different Latin American and particularly Peruvian political figures. The information provided by journalistic research, documentary and academic sources is used as a basis. Thus, the analysis of the cultural phenomenon of religious magic and its practices is developed from a theoretical and conceptual perspective; to then approach different cases. Likewise, it is proposed from a sociocultural and anthropological approach, the full validity of these occult practices and in the highest spheres of power in societies, being therefore a practice still very much in force within the belief system of many people of all economic and sociocultural conditions. It is necessary to develop study methodologies that allow an interdisciplinary approach to such a complex subject, which involves anthropological, historical, sociological and psychological aspects. El ocultismo es una práctica de orígenes ancestrales que se ha desarrollado en todo el mundo desde sus diferentes culturas. Este artículo nos introduce al contexto de la historia de su práctica desde tiempos precolombinos para luego enfocarse en las actividades y creencias mágico-religiosas ocultistas por parte de diferentes personajes políticos latinoamericanos, y particularmente del Perú. Se da cuenta de ello a partir de la información brindada por la investigación periodística, las fuentes documentales y académicas. Así, se desarrolla el análisis del fenómeno cultural mágico religioso y sus prácticas desde una perspectiva teórica y conceptual, para luego abordar diferentes casos. Asimismo se plantea, desde un enfoque sociocultural y antropológico, la plena vigencia de estas prácticas ocultistas y en las más altas esferas del poder en las sociedades, siendo pues una práctica todavía muy vigente dentro del sistema de creencias de muchas personas de toda condición económica y sociocultural. Se hace necesario desarrollar metodologías de estudio que permitan abordar de una manera interdisciplinaria un tema tan complejo, que involucra aspectos antropológicos, históricos, sociológicos y psicológicos.
