The objective of this article is to analyze the effects of the continuous penetration of the platforms that work through this format in the Latin American audiovisual market. The focus will be on the strategies that OTT platforms uses to hoard the markets where these get into, realizing about the impact that these have on the diversity of content that the audience can choose to consume and how this process hits the local audiovisual production. Lastly, emphasis will be made on the necessity to promote a public cultural politic that defines user protection common spaces and promotes the local offer. La industria audiovisual ha sido trastocada con la aparición de nuevos jugadores globales, que se beneficiaron de los servicios de red que permiten la libre transmisión en tiempo real, conocidos como Over the Top (OTT). El objeto de este artículo es analizar los efectos de la progresiva penetración de las plataformas que operan a través de este formato en el mercado audiovisual de América Latina. El foco será puesto en las estrategias que utilizan las plataformas OTT para acaparar los mercados en donde ingresan, dando cuenta del impacto que las mismas tienen sobre la diversidad de contenido que puede optar por consumir la audiencia y cómo este proceso afecta la producción audiovisual local. Por último, se hará hincapié en la necesidad de promover una política pública cultural que defina ámbitos comunes de protección del usuario y de promoción de la oferta local.
