El presente artículo se propone explicar el fenómeno de la integración regional sudamericana ─haciendo foco en el caso particular de la UNASUR y su Consejo de Defensa─, a partir del prisma teórico de las principales escuelas de teoría de las Relaciones Internacionales: el Realismo, el Liberalismo, el Constructivismo y laEscuela Inglesa, así como también estudiar y comprender las limitaciones propuestas por cada uno de dichos modelos.
