The main debates around the theory of good form and the proposals put forward by Gastón Breyer (1919-2009) and Jorge Vila Ortiz (1923-2001), who were both the first directors of the Institute and the professors of the subject Vision at Rosario School of Architecture and Planning, are analysed. The main objective is to reveal some of the outlines of the IDI's design method by studying the proposals included in its first publicity brochure. The study also reconstructs this method as well as the proposals developed by Vila Ortiz in an article published in A&P magazine through the observation of four products designed for local companies. An attempt is made to verify how the IDI acted as a promoter of ideas about good form from its practical production linked to industry and development. Este trabajo aborda las ideas involucradas en el diseño de la forma por parte del Instituto de Diseño Industrial (IDI) de Rosario, desde su fundación en 1960 hasta la realización de los primeros productos proyectados en colaboración con la industria local en 1964. Para ello se analizan los principales debates en torno a la teoría de la buena forma y las propuestas llevadas adelante por Gastón Breyer (1919-2009) y Jorge Vila Ortiz (1923-2001), quienes fueron los primeros directores del Instituto y, paralelamente, profesores titulares de la asignatura Visión en la Escuela de Arquitectura y Planeamiento de Rosario. El objetivo principal es revelar algunos de los lineamientos del método de diseño del IDI a partir del estudio de los planteos incluidos en su primer folleto publicitario. También se reconstruye dicho método con las propuestas desarrolladas por Vila Ortiz en un artículo publicado en la revista A&P y desde la observación de cuatro productos proyectados para empresas locales. Se intenta verificar de qué manera el IDI actuó como un promotor de las ideas sobre la buena forma desde su producción práctica vinculada a la industria y el desarrollo.
