description This article recovers the work and biography of painter and poet Emilia Bertolé (Santa Fe, 1896-1948). The first objective is to reconstruct her trajectory and examine it in relation to the problem of professionalization of women in Argentinian society of the 20s, particularly in the artistic field, from a double perspective: class and gender. The second objective is to analyze her poetry, specifically her book Espejo en sombra (1927), in order to determine the singularity of this feminine poetic voice. The hypothesis we set forward claims that there was a demand for a gender performance, based on "feminine" stereotypes, which was imposed on poetry written by women during that period.
