description In this article we address the case of the Marquis de Sade, emblematic and recognized from different perspectives of study, but focusing on a particular period in the life of the "Divine Marquis": his revolutionary stage and the search for literary recognition. While he was an active representative of the Revolution, our objective is focused on the study of his development as a playwright.Based on the main biographies and some relevant studies on the work of the marquis and certain analytical categories, such as notions of public image, celebrity and author image, we try to elucidate how the circumstances of his past life participated in building a man of letters, and how a public image, associated with debauchery, profanity and crime, could have impacted on Sade's attempt to give himself a place in the literary world, in this brief period of his life in freedom.
