description This paper aims, firstly, to contribute to the academic debate regarding the historical-intellectual events which led to the merging of two terms, Latin and America, to the point of said expression eventually becoming the most commonly accepted geopolitical term referring to this region. In this sense, it seeks to analyze the multiple influences, both Hispano-American and European, which acted on the formation of this composite concept. Secondly, it investigates how, in pan-Latin terms, a country in particular at a particular time, Italy during the 1920 decade, greatly incorporates the expression to help its rapprochement to the southern part of the American continent.
