description The article aims to address certain transformations that are taking place in contemporary higher education on an international scale, driven by the dynamics of the globalization process that are changing its modus operandi and the intellectual conception of universities. At first, it highlights that ‒in addition to the presence of national higher education systems that have developed in the course of their respective historical contexts‒ a new locus of their activity has gradually formed in the last decades, that is, a transnational space of higher education. Secondly, the article deals with the elaboration of certain ideas and concepts formulated by international organizations and also by academics who work simultaneously at the local, national and transnational levels that permeate higher education today. In this sense, the work is inspired by a new perspective on the sociology of intellectuals that focuses his attention on experts in certain areas of knowledge , located in different social spaces (universities, international organizations, research centers, think tanks, etc.). This work is close to the concept of the ideal type postulated by Max Weber, as it seeks to form a framework for thinking about contemporary higher education on an international scale.

Este artículo tiene como objetivo abordar ciertas transformaciones en la educación superior contemporánea a escala internacional, impulsadas por las dinámicas del proceso de globalización que están cambiando el modus operandi y la concepción intelectual de las universidades. En un primer momento, se destaca que ‒además de la presencia de sistemas nacionales de educación superior que se han desarrollado en el transcurso de sus respectivos contextos históricos‒ paulatinamente se ha ido conformando un nuevo locus de su actividad en las últimas décadas, es decir, un espacio transnacional de educación superior. En segundo lugar, el artículo trata sobre la elaboración de ciertas ideas y conceptos formulados por organismos internacionales y también por académicos que trabajan simultáneamente en los niveles local, nacional y transnacional que permean la educación superior en la actualidad. En este sentido, el trabajo se inspira en una nueva perspectiva sobre la sociología de los intelectuales que centra su atención en expertos en determinadas áreas de la ciencia ubicados en diferentes espacios sociales (universidades, organismos internacionales, centros de investigación, think tanks, etc.). Este trabajo se acerca al concepto de tipo ideal postulado por Max Weber, ya que busca conformar un marco para pensar la educación superior contemporánea a escala internacional. O presente artigo tem o objetivo de abordar determinadas transformações que estão ocorrendo no ensino superior contemporâneo em escala internacional, impulsionadas pela dinâmica do processo de globalização que estão alterando seu modus operandi e a concepção intelectual das universidades. Num primeiro momento, destaca que ‒ao lado da presença de sistemas nacionais de ensino superior que se desenvolveram no decurso de seus respectivos contextos históricos‒ formou-se gradativamente nas últimas décadas um novo locus de sua atuação, ou seja, um espaço transnacional de ensino superior. Num segundo momento, o artigo aborda a elaboração de determinadas ideias e concepções formuladas por organismos internacionais e também por acadêmicos que atuam simultaneamente nos níveis local, nacional e transnacional que permeiam o ensino superior nos dias correntes. Nesta direção, o trabalho inspira-se numa nova perspectiva da sociologia dos intelectuais que concentra sua atenção em experts em determinadas áreas do conhecimento, localizados em diferentes espaços sociais (universidades, organismos internacionais, centros de pesquisa, think tanks, etc.). Este trabalho guarda uma proximidade com o conceito de tipo ideal postulado por Max Weber, na medida em que procura formar um quadro de pensamento a respeito do ensino superior contemporâneo em escala internacional.
