These combined analyses provided indirect evidence for the interspecific determination of these animals and the economic strategies of ancient local village societies. The elements evaluated were recovered from archaeological sites of various functionalities and situated in different local environments and chronologies. Furthermore, a baseline was established to interpret the isotopic results obtained from faunal samples. The results obtained allowed for the definition of the presence of the llama-guanaco morphotype, although samples were identified that exceeded the measurements corresponding to that group and were associable with llamas. Additionally, two dissimilar trends in the diets of local camelids are observed, indicating differences in the utilization of C3 and C4 plant sources.

Con el objetivo de avanzar en la determinación de los patrones de subsistencia humana en relación al aprovechamiento de camélidos, y dada la ausencia de indicadores directos respecto a su explotación por parte de las sociedades aldeanas locales, este trabajo se orientó al análisis osteométrico y de isótopos estables (δ13C y δ15N) sobre restos de camélidos procedentes de la vertiente oriental de la Sierra de Velasco, al norte de la provincia de La Rioja (Argentina), durante el Holoceno Tardío. Estos análisis combinados aportaron evidencias indirectas para la determinación interespecífica de estos animales y de las estrategias económicas de las antiguas sociedades aldeanas locales. Los elementos evaluados proceden de sitios arqueológicos de distintas funcionalidades y ubicados en diferentes ambientes locales y cronologías. A su vez, se comenzó a construir una línea base para interpretar los resultados isotópicos obtenidos de las muestras faunísticas. Los resultados alcanzados permitieron definir la presencia del morfotipo llama-guanaco, aunque se identificaron muestras que superan las medidas correspondientes a ese grupo y que son asociables a llamas. A su vez, se observan dos tendencias disímiles en las dietas de los camélidos locales, lo que indica diferencias en el aprovechamiento de fuentes vegetales C3 y C4.   Para avançar na determinação dos padrões de subsistência humana em relação à exploração de camelídeos, e dada a ausência de indicadores diretos de sua exploração por sociedades de vilarejos locais, este trabalho foi orientado para a análise osteométrica e de isótopos estáveis (δ13C e δ15N) de restos de camelídeos da encosta oriental da Sierra de Velasco, norte da província de La Rioja (Argentina), durante o Holoceno tardio. Essas análises combinadas forneceram evidências indiretas da determinação interespecífica desses animais e das estratégias econômicas de antigas sociedades de vilarejos locais. Os elementos avaliados são provenientes de sítios arqueológicos de diferentes funcionalidades e localizados em diferentes ambientes e cronologias locais. Ao mesmo tempo, uma linha de base começou a ser construída para interpretar os resultados isotópicos obtidos das amostras de fauna. Os resultados obtidos permitiram definir a presença do morfotipo lhama-guanaco, embora tenham sido identificadas amostras que excedem as medidas correspondentes a esse grupo e que estão associadas a lhamas.
