To examine these questions, are analyzed publications and papers of austrian physician and explorer Wanda Hanke. Its activities are understood in a context of expansion of the museums in different cities and provinces in the decades of 1930 and 1940. The analysis allows to compare its practices with those of itinerant characters who from the 19th century toured the South American continent adopting the explorer’s identity, also developing practices tied to medicine, journalism and market of collecting, coordinating scientific and commercial activities around the knowledge and objects of indigenous peoples.
