We also consider the theory of the ‘beautiful fighting girl’ by Tamaki Saito. After setting the framework, we investigate the case of the female lead character from the six animated features released between 1992 and 2017 directed by the Basque animation pioneer Juanba Berasategi. The main purpose of this research is to determine the stereotypes and conventions in the work of Berasategi which is created in the context of independent filmmaking. El presente artículo, que forma parte de una investigación enmarcada en los estudios de género, plantea los estereotipos o convenciones recurrentes de la protagonista femenina en el largometraje de animación. Para ello se establece un marco teórico donde se recogen varios análisis realizados sobre films del ámbito comercial, concretamente, los largometrajes de The Walt Disney Company y los dirigidos por Hayao Miyazaki. El marco teórico se completa con la teoría de la beautiful fighting girl de Tamaki Saito. Seguidamente se estudian las protagonistas femeninas de los seis largometrajes estrenados entre 1992 y 2017 dirigidos por el pionero de la animación vasca Juanba Berasategi. El principal objetivo de la investigación es determinar los estereotipos y convenciones presentes en la obra de Berasategi, la cual se sitúa en el ámbito del cine independiente.
