An approach to the problem in question is proposed from an approach based on the dialogue of knowle-dge and the problematization of the institution as a participant in the epistemic violence towards the plurality of views and knowledge. Ultimately, it is concluded that it is fundamen-tal, in the processes of curricular integration of the extensionist practice, that the institution itself is transformed with a view to developing its functions within a more democratic andequitable model. En el presente artículo, se propone un análisis conceptual que sitúa a la universidad como un bien público, destacando los aportes significativos generados por la extensión en la redefinición de su rol como práctica sustantiva de la universidad junto a la docencia e investigación. Se plantea una aproximación al problema en cuestión desde un enfoque que se fundamenta en el diálogo de saberes y en la problematización de la institución como partícipe de la violencia epistémica hacia la pluralidad de miradas y saberes. En última instancia, se concluye que resulta fundamental, en los procesos de integración curricular de la práctica extensionista, que la propia institución se transforme con miras a desarrollar sus funcionesdentro de un modelo más democrático y equitativo. Este artigo propõe uma análise conceitual que situa a universidade como um bem público, destacando as contribuições significativas geradas pela extensão na redefinição de seu papel como uma prática substantiva da universidade, juntamente com o ensino e a pesquisa. O problema em questão é abordado a partir de um enfoque baseado no diálogo do conhecimento e na problematização da instituição como participante da violência epistêmica em relação à pluralidade de visões e conhecimentos. Por fim, conclui-se que é fundamental, nos processos de integração curricular da prática extensionista, que a própria instituição se transforme com vistas a desenvolver suas funçõesem um modelo mais democrático e equitativo.
