The aim of the study was to determine the correlation between the perception of the risk of the oil spill and mental health in artisanal fishermen from the periphery of the Callao region. A total of 131 fishermen participated (44 women and 87 men), with a mean age of 45.25 and SD = 14.59. Mental health was assessed with the DASS-21, while for the other variable an instrument was created that met the standards of psychometric properties. In the results it was found that both variables correlate directly with each other as well as within their dimensions. It is concluded that the higher the perception of oil spill risk, the more affected is the mental health of the fishermen in the evaluated area. En enero de 2022 se produjo un desastre ambiental por derrame de petróleo en el litoral peruano que generó un impacto en la biodiversidad de la región, así como problemas en las comunidades involucradas. El objetivo del estudio fue determinar la correlación entre percepción de riesgo del derrame de petróleo y salud mental en pescadores artesanales de la periferia de la región Callao. Participaron 131 pescadores (44 mujeres y 87 varones), con edad promedio 45.25 y DE = 14.59. La salud mental fue evaluada con el DASS-21, mientras que para la otra variable se creó un instrumento que cumplió con los estándares de propiedades psicométricas. En los resultados se halló que ambas variables correlacionan positivamente en un grado medio entre sí, así como con sus dimensiones. Se concluye que, a mayor percepción de riesgo de derrame, más afectada se encuentra la salud mental de los pescadores de la zona evaluada.
