The objective of the present work was to synthesize the empirical evidence available on the relationship between Internet gaming disorder and loneliness. A search was performed in the PsycINFO, Scopus and ERIC databases, recovering 35 articles and 42 independent samples. The meta-analysis comprised 44,140 participants, in which PUI was correlated with loneliness r = 0.28 (p < .001). The publication bias and sensitivity analyses showed the robustness of the results found. Potential moderating variables were evaluated. Limitations of the study were discussed. The present meta-analysis contributes to a better understanding of the association between Internet gaming disorder and loneliness.
