The result was the Documentos de Arte Argentino series, published between 1939 and 1947 composed of twenty-five volumes that travel through the Argentine provinces from the Northwest to the City of Buenos Aires. In this article, we inquire into the Academy’s interests to carry out this project, under the idea that the development of a photographic archive and its immediate dissemination became solidary with their editorial challenges. The figure of Martín Noel and his actions as leader of the Academy constitutes an axis that breaks through the article in the interpretation of his institutional practices and the links with public bodies. La Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes se estableció en Buenos Aires en el año 1936 y diseñó un programa editorial orientado a recuperar el patrimonio arquitectónico y artístico del territorio nacional. El resultado fue la serie Documentos de Arte Argentino, publicada entre 1939 y 1947 a través de veinticinco cuadernos que recorren las provincias argentinas desde el noroeste hasta la ciudad de Buenos Aires. En este artículo indagamos acerca de los intereses de la Academia por llevar a cabo este proyecto bajo la idea de que el desarrollo de un archivo fotográfico y su inmediata difusión resultó solidario con sus desafíos editoriales. La figura de Martín Noel y sus acciones como líder del organismo constituyen un eje que atraviesa el trabajo en la interpretación de sus prácticas institucionales y en los vínculos con otros entes públicos.
