For this, it was necessary to improve the water network and expand it to other territories. One of them was the south, which would become a privileged space to carry out large water works. In this contribution, the policies and projects aimed at promoting the expansion of the cultivable area in the edge territory are analyzed. Before the south, Lavalle (northeast) was the scene of projects and interventions in order to increase arable land and achieve a fair distribution of water. The case also implies explaining fundamental aspects of the agency related to water (Departamento General de Irrigación), as well as considering its internal structure and its extensive links with the productive sector. En el marco de las consecuencias de la crisis económica de los años 1930, múltiples fueron las medidas diseñadas y ejecutadas en Mendoza con miras a fomentar la producción. Para ello era necesario mejorar la red hídrica y expandirla hacia otros territorios. Uno de ellos fue el Sur, el cual se convertiría en un espacio privilegiado para ejecutar grandes obras hídricas. En la presente contribución se analizan las políticas y proyectos destinados a potenciar la expansión del área cultivable en un territorio periférico. Antes que el Sur, Lavalle (Noreste) fue escenario de proyectos e intervenciones con el fin de incrementar tierras cultivables y alcanzar una justa distribución del agua. El caso implica dilucidar, además, aspectos fundamentales de la agencia relacionada al agua (Departamento General de Irrigación), como también reflexionar sobre su conformación interna y sus frondosos vínculos con el sector productivo.
