I will explain how a part of the objections that Foster presents are answered in that article and this will lead us to a point of convergence between both authors, who borrow conceptual tools from psychoanalysis. However, as I will show, such convergence can also be understood in pragmatic-communicative terms. En este trabajo intentaré poner en relación la crítica de Hal Foster a las implicaciones del shock –o de la estética del shock, como yo lo entiendo– que Peter Bürger sostiene en la Teoría de la vanguardia (1974), con ciertas nociones que el autor alemán esboza en su artículo “La verdad estética” (1988). Voy a exponer cómo una parte de las objeciones que Foster presenta están contestadas en ese artículo y esto nos llevará a un punto de convergencia entre ambos autores, que toman prestadas herramientas conceptuales del psicoanálisis. No obstante, como mostraré, tal convergencia puede entenderse también en términos pragmático-comunicativos.
