description A prospective descriptive study was conducted between June 2017 and June 2018 with the objective of determining the Annual Incidence of Painful Shoulder and the distribution of its most frequent causes by age group and sex of a population of a private institution medical in Uruguay. The annual incidence rate of painful shoulder was 6,66 ‰ being higher than other studies performed at national level and lower than at international level. In relation to the causes of painful shoulder, the first place was occupied by the subacromial Impact syndrome, followed by Adhesive Capsulitis and Glenohumeral Instability. The Impact syndrome had an annual incidence of 5 ‰; this predominated between 45 to 64 years, higher in the female sex. The annual incidence rate for Adhesive Capsulitis was 0,8‰, predominantly between 45 to 64 years, being higher in females. The annual Surgical Incidence rate in the painful Shoulder was 1,3 ‰, this figure was higher than other studies conducted in the same study population conducted in 2011 to 2014 and 2007 to 2008. 80% of the surgeries performed corresponded to Impact syndrome and 20% to Gleno Humeral Instability. This work aims to make an epidemiological contribution about the number of adults that may be affected by this pathology in a user population and take the necessary preventive and assistance measures primarily at the first level of care.

This work aims to make an epidemiological contribution about the number of adults that may be affected by this pathology in a user population and take the necessary preventive and assistance measures primarily at the first level of care.
